A common situation during on-site commissioning: the cold-side piping is already connected, and the hot-side flow rate and inlet temperature can be read, but the cold-side outlet temperature and allowable pressure drop are not given, so the heat exchange area cannot be directly determined. Such incomplete parameters are quite common at the procurement stage. The following answers address two aspects: selection basis and material confirmation.
The core basis for plate heat exchanger selection is three parameters: heat load, flow rate, and allowable pressure drop. The heat load determines the heat transfer duty, the flow rate affects the inter-plate flow velocity and heat transfer coefficient, and the allowable pressure drop constrains the number of plates and the channel arrangement. When the cold-side outlet temperature is missing, boundary conditions can first be set according to the process-permitted temperature rise range, and the required heat exchange area can be back-calculated; when the allowable pressure drop is missing, a margin should be reserved according to the system pump head to avoid the resistance after selection exceeding the pipeline's bearing capacity. It is recommended to obtain these two data items from the process side before procurement, or to confirm an acceptable alternative range in writing.
The single-plate heat exchange area and number of plates of BR-105 can be combined according to operating conditions, and the chevron corrugation angle affects the balance between heat transfer and resistance. When checking parameters, procurement personnel should pay attention to design pressure, design temperature, connection diameter, and plate material, and select 304 or 316L stainless steel according to the corrosiveness of the medium. If the medium contains chloride ions, the pitting corrosion risk should be evaluated before determining the material.
Incompatibility between the gasket and the medium is a common source of leakage. During selection, it is necessary to confirm that the gasket material is compatible with the medium to avoid leakage caused by swelling or hardening. The procurement documents should specify the medium name, concentration, and operating temperature, and the supplier should provide gasket material recommendations, with the replacement cycle of sealing components and the spare parts supply method stipulated in the contract.
The supplier can be required to provide the selection calculation sheet, plate material certificate, and sealing component material description, and it should be checked whether the connection orientation is consistent with the on-site piping. When parameters are incomplete, items to be confirmed should be noted in the technical agreement, and the final configuration should be locked only after the data are completed.
